NFL Roundup: Broncos Stage Late Rally Versus Eagles, Ravens Suffer Historic Home Defeat
Denver Broncos 21–17 Philadelphia Eagles
Bo Nix connected with an 11-yard touchdown pass and the running back added a two-yard rushing score in the fourth quarter as the Broncos overcame a 14-point deficit to hand the Philadelphia Eagles their first loss of the campaign. The Broncos deflected Jalen Hurts' last-gasp pass on the game's concluding play to send the reigning title holders to just their second loss in their last 22 games. Denver (3-2) caught a huge break in their comeback when the Philadelphia had a crucial play nullified on a formation infraction called on running back Saquon Barkley.
Houston Texans 44–10 Baltimore Ravens
CJ Stroud passed for 244 passing yards and four touchdowns, and the Texans (2-3) cruised to a decisive victory over an injury-ravaged Ravens squad, matching both the most lopsided road win in Texans' history and the worst home defeat in Baltimore's annals. Baltimore (one win and four losses) were missing two-time MVP quarterback Lamar Jackson, and that was far from their sole issue. Defensive standouts Kyle Hamilton, Roquan Smith and Marlon Humphrey all missed the game, and the Baltimore already were depleted on that side of the ball because of a cervical issue that concluded Nnamdi Madubuike's campaign. The Ravens were also missing Pro Bowl blocker Ricard and offensive lineman Stanley.
Colts Rout Raiders in One-Sided Affair
Indianapolis' running back ran for three rushing scores and a two-pointer, and Daniel Jones passed for two touchdown passes as the Indianapolis Colts routed the Raiders. The 34-point margin was Indianapolis' biggest since 2013. Jones completed 20 of 29 for 212 yards and improved to 4-1 as a starter this year, surpassing his total wins over the past two seasons with the Giants. Taylor carried 17 attempts for 66 yards and grabbed three passes for 20 yards. The Colts converted a blocked punt, two interceptions and a turnover on downs into touchdowns. Las Vegas dropped to four wins and one loss.
Cowboys Soar Past Jets in High-Scoring Game
Dak Prescott passed for four touchdown passes, guiding the Dallas Cowboys to a comfortable win over the New York Jets. Dallas put points on the board on two long marches in the second quarter, despite missing four starters on the offensive line. The running back ran for 135 rushing yards and a touchdown and also hauled in a receiving touchdown. Dallas, now 2-2-1, rebounded from a 40-40 tie against Green Bay last week. New York are still without a victory at zero wins and five losses in their new coach's first season as head coach.
Minnesota Vikings 21–17 Cleveland Browns
Minnesota wideout Addison grabbed a short scoring reception from Carson Wentz with under half a minute remaining to give the Vikings victory over the Cleveland Browns at the UK venue. This methodical march gave the Vikings (three wins and two losses) a much-needed win on their overseas journey, which started with a narrow defeat to the Pittsburgh in Ireland last week. It also spoiled the rookie's debut as starter, as the Cleveland rookie positioned his squad (1-4) in contention by throwing two scores. Another first-year player Quinshon Judkins rushed for 110 rushing yards on 23 carries. The quarterback overcame an arm issue that briefly sent him to the locker room and directed two touchdown marches in the second half.
Miami Dolphins 24-27 Carolina Panthers
Carolina's quarterback threw for two touchdowns and Rico Dowdle rushed for 206 rushing yards and a touchdown as the Carolina Panthers came back against the Miami Dolphins in Charlotte. The quarterback's quick throw to the first-year receiver with 1:59 to play gave the Carolina (two wins and three losses) the decisive advantage as they equaled the biggest rally to win a game in team history by overcoming a 17-point hole. Young had a poor start, but he finished 19-for-30 passing for 198 yards with one pick. The backup, replacing the sidelined starter, did his work on the ground on 23 carries, coming up just short of matching the team's all-time rushing mark. The Dolphins' quarterback threw 27 of 36 for 256 passing yards with three scores and receiver Waddle accumulated 110 yards through the air on six receptions and added a touchdown, but the Dolphins (one win and four losses) fell to zero wins and three losses in road games.
New York Giants 14–26 New Orleans Saints
Spencer Rattler threw an 87-yard touchdown to receiver Shaheed, safety Jordan Howden scooped up a loose ball 86 yards for a touchdown, and the Saints beat the error-prone Giants for the New Orleans' first victory under first-year head coach Moore. The QB earned his first victory in 11 professional starts, passing for 225 passing yards without a turnover. New York's first-year signal-caller Dart, who secured his debut last Sunday, passed for 202 yards and two touchdowns, but also turned the ball over three times. The Giants turned the ball over five times in all, none more costly than when the defender forced a fumble from ball carrier Skattebo, leading to the safety's TD. Both teams are one win and four losses.
