Ibrox side sack Russell Martin just 17 games.

Russell Martin has been sacked as Rangers head coach after 17 games, with the club stating "even though rebuilding takes time, results have not met expectations".

The 39-year-old's final game was the 1-1 draw at Falkirk on Sunday, after which he required security protection from the venue when supporters attempted to halt the team coach from departing.

Martin had faced mounting criticism and opposition from Ibrox supporters amid a poor start to the season to the campaign.

Rangers required until September's conclusion to record their maiden league win, and the side endured a devastating 9-1 combined loss versus Belgian side Club Brugge during Champions League qualification during August.

Officials highlighted that transition periods require patience, however performances need to satisfy requirements.

Main Developments

  • The coach's appointment concluded after 17 fixtures
  • Last fixture finished as a stalemate
  • Needed security following match
  • Disappointing campaign opening
  • Late September first league victory
  • Substantial European setback against Belgian opponents

Future Considerations

The hunt commences for a new head coach to guide the Ibrox club forward as the football side works to rejuvenate their term and restore successful performances.
