First Lady's Digital Currency Creators Facing Pump-and-Dump Scam Lawsuit
The architects behind a digital token introduced by First Lady of the United States Melania Trump have been alleged in federal papers of planning a pump-and-dump scheme.
Initial Launch and Price Surge
The $MELANIA coins were made available for under a dollar each on January 19, one day preceding Donald Trump took office.
Alongside the Melania cryptocurrency, the former president released his own digital currency just ahead of the inauguration ceremony.
In a matter of hours, the market value of the $MELANIA cryptocurrency surged to nearly $14 per coin.
Sudden Collapse in Value
Yet, the price subsequently crashed just as rapidly, and is now only about 10 cents – less than 1% of its highest value.
At the same time, the $TRUMP cryptocurrency achieved a maximum of over forty-five dollars and presently sells for approximately five seventy-nine.
Court Claims and Investors' Arguments
The plaintiffs claim that the currency's developers planned the scheme knowing that the digital currency's value would decline sharply.
Mrs. Trump herself is not included in the court case. Investors clarified they do not think she was culpable, but accused the digital currency firms of using her and other familiar faces as a facade for their illegal activities.
Trading Venue Role
In newly filed legal documents, investors charge executives of the Meteora trading platform, where Melania's coin was first exchanged, of creating a operation that enabled them to discreetly acquire large quantities of the virtual coin.
Their partners then quickly resold these digital currencies, securing large returns while causing the price to plummet, per papers submitted in federal court in Manhattan.
Wider Proceedings
The allegations regarding the Melania token have been included in court cases regarding multiple additional digital currencies, which started in spring.
Trump-associated entities has reportedly earned over a billion dollars in pre-tax gains from various blockchain-associated enterprises and organizations over the previous twelve months.
