A senior officer that leaped to the help of a fellow officer that got attacked by a knifeman received the Monarch's Honor for Valor.

Sergeant Tim Ansell struggled against twenty-seven-year-old Jacob Brown after he pressed a blade to the throat of his partner Sgt Marc Foster.

Brown began the violence as the policemen and their colleague, PC Marcus Wolstencroft, were talking to a driver after a road collision in Whalley Range in July 2023.

Brown knifed and cut the two Sergeant Ansell and Sergeant Foster before Police Constable Wolstencroft stunned him with a Taser.

"Officer attacked," the officer stated over his radio.

Bodyworn and dashcam recording released by the police department showed Brown, that was clothed in dark clothing with a head covered, run up to Sgt Foster from behind with a knife extended.

He collided with the policeman who stumbled and fell to the pavement, before Sgt Ansell stepped in and tried to wrestle him to the floor despite being repeatedly struck with the weapon.

PC Wolstencroft deployed his electric weapon and awaited a clear shot, ending the struggle to an finish.

Sgt Ansell stated audibly: "I need help on my neck now, I'm bleeding in the throat."

Sergeant Ansell received two open wounds to his throat and further wounds to his limbs and torso, whereas Sgt Foster received slash wounds.

The department stated Sergeant Foster employed his hands to control his colleague's bleeding before emergency responders came.

The latest honor comes subsequent to the three officers won organizational Bravery Awards in October 2023 and the police federation award from the regional union branch in spring 2024.

They further earned a Area Valor Recognition in July 2024.

"The responses of the entire team ultimately protected each other and meant no bystanders suffered any wounds."

Brown was given to an secure medical confinement in April 2024, per authorities.
